September Favourites

Ok, I haven't done a favourites post in basically forever, but here goes - some of my favourite things from this month!

Spring may be here, but I'm still absolutely loving the plum/purple lipcolours I've been wearing non-stop for the last few months. Here I've swatched the most-used ones in my collection:
(L-R) Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Black Cherry; Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate in 04; Rimmel Lasting Finish in Cutting Edge; Rimmel Moisture Renew in Sloane's Plum; Catrice Ultimate Colour in Matt-erial Girl; Wet n Wild MegaLast Lipstick in Cherry Bomb, Sugar Plum Fairy & Bordeaux Boulevard (limited edition); Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm in Shameless; Rimmel Provocalips Liquid Lipstick in Kiss Fatal; Nyx Butter Gloss in Raspberry Tart.

Here they are in the tubes (same order as swatched). At the moment, I'm really loving the Wet n Wild lipsticks (such excellent value for money!!!) and the Provocalips range (these liquid lipsticks really last, but the balm end keeps your lips feeling comfortable). The Nyx Butter Gloss is a recent acquirement and I'm rather liking it so far, despite not really being a lipgloss person, so I'm keen to try some of the other more pigmented varients (clearly, nude lips are very much NOT my thing).

In terms of skincare, I've been loving REN's Flash Rinse 1 Minute Facial. I love that it gives me soft, glowing skin in just a flash! (As I'm rather lazy when it comes to skincare). I've also really been liking their Lip Balm*. I react badly to many "conventional" lipbalms (things like Maybelline's Baby Lips - they dry my lips out incredibly and make my lips break out in weird blisters) so I am thrilled that this formula keeps my lips soft and hydrated. I apply it just after my morning shower and by the time I'm putting on my makeup, my lips are ready for whichever dark lipstick I want to wear.

Also in skincare, I've been rather impressed with Garnier's Micellar Water. Every South African blogger has already reviewed this product since it hit our shores, so I won't except to say that I am super psyched to find something that is pretty damn comparable to my beloved Bioderma one at a fraction of the cost!

In last week's nail post, I mentioned my love for "pure soul", this very pretty nude from Essence. It's currently my go-to shade, especially when paired with the range's glitter polish as an accent.

And finally, this month one of my friends got married in Franschoek, so my real favourite thing was being able to spend lots and lots of time with my oldest and bestest (and possibly craziest!) friends!

Project Pan 27 - 35

If you've been around the blog world for a while, you probably have come across a Project Pan series or two before. For those who don't know what Project Pan is, this is what it is about: basically, you go on a no-buy or low-buy until you use up the things you already have. I'm sure everyone has experienced that point where your bathroom or vanity is overfull of half-empty products, and yet you keep on buying more. The idea behind Project Pan is to (a) finish using the products you already own (or, if you hate them, throw them out!) and (b) not buy products that you already have. So I will be repurchasing things I finish, or buying things that I still need, but no more wasting money on things I already have in my collection. Bonus: who doesn't find empties posts deeply satisfying on some level?

Today's post includes a bunch of things that were hanging around the bathroom half-used, before I actively decided to finish them and throw them out.

27.  Nivea Cellular Anti Age Day Cream
My review of this product can be found here.
Will I repurchase? Maybe. I don't love it as much as the corresponding night cream, so I'm going to use up the rest of the day creams in my bathroom cupboard first.

28. Dove Intensive Repair Treatment Conditioner
I've been using this conditioner basically ever since it launched. (My original review of this product can be found here.) It's a tad too heavy to use every day, but if I use it every second wash it keeps my hair so lovely! It's better than anything else I have tried on my hair, including things many times its price point.
Will I repurchase? Yes - this is one product that I will keep in my routine.

29. Shield Clinical Protection Shower Fresh
Didn't do that much more than a normal antiperspirant, despite costing a lot more, so I was disappointed.
Will I repurchase? No.

30. L'Oreal Skin Perfection Radiance Revealing Gentle Exfoliator
This cleanser/exfoliator combo is marked "soap free" yet it foams up incredibly and dried out my skin. Not a fan. It also didn't do much to exfoliate, despite having microbeads (which I am avoiding buying now).
Will I repurchase? No.

31. Nivea Daily Essentials Cleanser
A very average cleanser. Nothing special but does manage to cleanse well without drying out skin too much.
Will I repurchase? No. (I'm switching to oil-based cleansers for good.)

32. Sorbet Firming Body Wash
Ok, apart from the ridiculous firming/anti-aging claims (the stuff is in contact with your skin for a few seconds before being washes off, for goodness sakes), I actually liked this body wash, which I mostly chose for its yummy scent.
Will I repurchase? Maybe.

33. Dirty Works Body Scrub
I picked this up on a Clicks clearance sale for almost nothing so I thought I would give it a shot. (I think the range was discontinued?) Unfortunately, it seemed more like a shower gel with a few small scrubby particles in it, not a proper body scrub at all. It did smell nice though.
Will I repurchase? No.

34. Clarins Extra Comfort Toning Lotion
This was an amazing toner. It's aimed at sensitized or dry skin and using it soothes skin so much while leaving it feeling soft, clean and fresh.
Will I repurchase? I would, but it's currently outside of my budget..

35. Indeed Labs Hydraluron
Great for giving skin that extra hydration boost. I definitely noticed a difference in my skin's finish when using this.
Will I repurchase? Yes, I did. (It's also now R200 at Clicks, rather than the R400 when it launched, so yay!)

NOTD: Spring is in the air

Everytime I do a floral mani I can't help thinking:

But anyway, it's Spring, the weather is warming up and I felt like painting some roses on my fingertips!

The base colour on my nails is "pure soul" from the essence nude collection. I ♥ this polish so freaking much! It's a sheer, pretty, slightly sparkly, very light nude and it's a polish I've been reaching for a lot lately.

For the roses, I used essence colour & go polishes. I first used a large dotting tool and "english rose" to make some irregular shapes over my nails. (I varied the size based on the size of the nail to be more in proportion.) I then took a smaller dotting tool (btw I use the essence double-ended dotting tool, definitely worth getting it!) and "be berry now" to draw in some petal detail. Finally, I used a very small paintbrush (basically I just bought a few brushes from PNA, the smallest ones I could find) and "the green and the grunge" to paint on some leaves.

And that's it! It's actually quite simple, just do your nails whilst you are watching series or something so that you don't mind waiting inbetween colours for the polish to dry!
