May Fashion Blogger Challenge: Day 31 - Something You're Obsessed With

Day 31 - Something you're obsessed with

Wow, May has completely flown by! Hard to believe we're already at the last post of this series!

Well, if you've been following my recent blog posts, you will have seen that I've developed a mild obsession for all things grey. I now have grey scarves, hats, jeans, t-shirts, jerseys, cardigans, shoes, jewelry... I love layering different fabrics, textures or shades of grey in the same outfit to add depth. [I also think I look a lot better in grey now that I'm a blonde, compared to when I was a brunette...]

To end of this series on a light note, here's a fun photo of me in my favourite new grey blazer (I loved this blazer so much I just bought it again in a lighter shade of grey!).

May Fashion Blogger Challenge: Day 30 - Pretty Hair

Day 30: Pretty Hair

This is my go-to "pretty" hair. It's soft, unusual, a little bit boho and best of all - super easy!

All you need is a pretty, elasticated headband, like this one.

Slip it around your head, over your hair. (Mine's a little loose, so I fix it in place with two bobby pins.) Then, starting at one side, take small sections of your hair and tuck it into the band. Keep on tucking as you go around your head to form the "roll" of hair at the back. Once it's all in, you can give the "roll" another tuck if you want it neat and tight, or rough it up a bit if you want it looser. Give your hair a quick spritz of hairspray and you're done!

Once you've got the hang of it, and are tucking your hair nice and evenly, you'll find that once you undo your hair later you'll have great no-heat curls!

Easy-peasy Dinner Rolls

Is there anything better than homemade bread, fresh from the oven? (The answer is, no.)
I'm a bit of a sucker for homemade bread, but most of the time, I'm just too lazy to make it from scratch. Which is why I love the fact that you can buy premade dough from Checkers and other supermarkets.

Yesterday for dinner, I made these brown onion rolls - by what can only be described as cheating.

What you'll need:
1kg of premade dough (let it sit out of the fridge for a few minutes to warm up a bit)
1 250ml tub of cream
1 packet of soup powder (I used brown onion soup, but veggie soup also works nicely)

What you'll do:
Pour the cream into a baking dish and sprinkle in 3/4 of the soup powder. Give it a bit of a stir.
Divide the dough into balls, about half the size that you want your rolls to be.
Take each ball, roll it a bit in the cream, then pack them together in the baking dish.
Top with the remaining soup powder.

You should have something that looks like this:

Now, put them in an oven that's preheated to 180°C and bake for about 20 minutes. (Each oven is different, so you want to take them out when they're all nice and risen and golden).

What you should have:

(If there is any excess soup powder, like you can see here, just tip the dish and tap it loose.)

And voila! Serve as is, letting each diner tear off their own roll. Best served warm.

If you have leftovers, keep them refrigerated in an airtight container. Reheat in the microwave for an even easier breakfast :)

May Fashion Blogger Challenge: Day 26 - What's in my bag?

Day 26: What's in my bag?

Here's the day bag I'm using at the moment:

Yes,  it's purple! And a birthday present from a few of my varsity friends.

Top view of my bag. Only two things in: my handbag organiser, and my wallet.

The black/purple handbag organiser was a Christmas gift from my mom last year, and it's fantastic. No more digging around in a big bag for your lipbalm! Also, it makes switching bags effortless.

Wallet, and front pouches, left to right:
Hot pink faux-snakeskin wallet (from Mr Price), my phone (Samsung Galaxy SII, much love), iPad stylus, two pens (the blue is a recent addition from my conference last month), two eyeliner pencils (Almay Intense I-Colour in Brown Topaz for Blue Eyes & Revlon ColorStay Eyeliner in Black)

Side pouches, left to right:
Keys, two hair elastics (one thick for ponytails, one thin for braids), two bobby pins, Amilab lip balm, the day's lipstick, Rimmel Lipstick Lock

Center pouch, left to right, top to bottom:
Small notepad (with my name on it!), Palmer's Cocoa Butter hand cream (an oldie but goodie), "sensu" fragrance from Woolies (a light green/floral, 25ml handbag-sized bottle), cleansing hand wipes, permanent marker (you never know when you'll need one...)
My Guess watch (the clasp is broken, so I've been meaning to take it in for repairs, but I always forget - it's been in my bag for months!), a Sh'Zen glass nailfile (smoother and more even than normal files, so much gentler on your nails), sugar-free peppermints
My iPod (with earphones from my brother's phone - I have a habit of destroying earphones at an unbelievable speed), small compact mirror.

The back of the organiser also has a small zipped compartment, in which I keep my ID book, some paracetamol and a few safety pins and plasters (for the unexpected wardrobe malfunction, or blisters from new shoes).

Do you have something in your handbag that I don't and should have? Are you using a handbag organiser? Any useful handbag tips? (Oh, and to the men - see, it's not a pandora's box, just a collection of odd things that woman feel the need to carry around all the time!)

Just for laughs

I need to see this movie again. Seriously.

May Fashion Blogger Challenge: Day 24 - The item that totally brings all the boys to the yard

It would have to be this dress from YDE! Curve-hugging, black, one-shouldered, sexy. This dress always gets attention. I feel like a model in this dress. The above photo was taken at my cousin's wedding, for which I bought the dress. So I'll post another great shot of the dress, with my brother and I pulling equally ridiculous faces (yay for champagne!).
