Review: June Rubybox

(I honestly thought I'd posted this weeks ago; it was only now as I'm busy putting together a post on my July Rubybox that I realized this post's absence! Guess I'm getting scatterbrained in my old age!]

Calvin Klein Forbidden Euphoria (R825 for 50ml; sample)

They say: "A floral take on the original Euphoria, this fruit floriental has a modern twist. Forbidden fruit sound good to you? It pens with a burst of peach blossom, spakling mandarin and iced raspberry. With tiger orchid and jasmine at the heart and a selection of musks and cashmere woods at this base, this cheeky scent contains something for everyone."
I say: I'm a big fan of the original Euphoria. (It's on my Christmas list already) This version is a little sweeter, a big more flirty. I received a quite few compliments when wearing this fragrance. However, I still think that I prefer the original for me.

Maybelline Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner (R99.95 for 1.1ml; full-sized product)

They say: "Creating a sexy cat eye has never been easier thanks to this felt tip liquid marker. With a precision tip of 0.4mm, you get the perfect line without any drying, skipping or mess. Quick and convenient, this liner is the answer to beautiful, long-lasting makeup."
I say: As you may have seen in earlier blog posts, I love liquid liner! Normal liner, small cat-eye effects, big wings, the lot. After struggling with brush-type applicators, I have found that felt-tip brushes give you a lot more control, so I was interested in trying this product. The pen's tip was a bit longer that I am used to, so it took a bit of getting re-accustomed to, but once I got the hang of it, I was impressed at how easy it was to use! The tip is very fine, so you can easily get close to the lashline and the inner corner of your upper eyelid. It draws smoothly and easily without drying out - it's almost like you're using a normal koki pen! Once on, the eyeliner had fairly impressive staying power, lasting for a whole day before slowly smudging away. My only complaint is that the current formulation is not waterproof. When that comes out, I'll be repurchasing!

Piz Buin In Sun Sun Lipstick SPF 20 (R41.95 for 4.9g; full-sized product)

They say: "Struggling with dry, cracked lips that go hand-in-hand with winter? Then this is the lippie for you. Ultra-moisturizing, this protective lip balm keeps lips sage from the elemnts and leaves them soft and plump. The SPF 20 protects from both UVA and UVB rays (yes, the sun still causes damage during winter), so you can brave the outdoors without any worries."
I say: This is a fantastic product, as you can expect from Piz Buin. I remember my mom having this in her handbag when we used to go to the beach, and it's every bit as good as I remember. I guiltily admit that I often forget about sun protection in winter, even with SA being as sunny as it is, so it's great to incorporate SPF into your routine of moisturizer, lipbalm, etc. This one's staying in my handbag!

Prevage Hydrating Fluid (R850 for 50ml; 5ml sample)

They say: "Want to treat your skin to a luxurious moisture boost? This silky hydrator is rich in antioxidants and helps minimize the appearance of fine lines, dark spots and wrinkles."
I say: I had great expectations for this product, as it's most definitely not cheap! In fact, the 5ml sample we got is worth R85 - almost as much as a whole pot of my normal moisturizer! I have to admit, it's a fantastic product. It absorbs super quickly into your skin and instantly hydrates - far more than you would expect from such a lightweight cream. My skin felt softer, smoother, plumper and looked healthier. [The active ingredient, idebenone, is a synthetic analogue of coenzyme Q10, a powerful antioxidant found in cells]. If I could afford to repurchase this, I would. It really lived up to my expectations.

Overall, with two samples and two full-sized products, I was impressed with the June Rubybox. (Just the eyeliner alone covered the cost of the box, so it was good value for money.)
